What We Get Called For
Avondale sits inside the older band of the service area, and the calls we get from that stretch match it. Housing across the wider area went up mostly between 1938 and 1994, with the typical build year landing around 1961, and Avondale runs true to that pattern. That means single garage stalls with steel doors on side-mounted torsion hardware, openers that have been swapped once or twice already, and rollers that were never nylon to begin with.
The cold-climate band we're in doesn't help those originals. Steel skins without much insulation flex more in a hard freeze, and older torsion springs lose tension faster with repeated temperature swings than newer galvanized coils do. So on a five-mile run down to Avondale, the jobs tend to be broken springs, tracks knocked out of true by a door that's been dragging for months, and openers that finally give up after one cold snap too many.
Here's the limitation worth saying plainly: some of the original spring sizes on those 1960s doors aren't something we carry on the truck. We have to order the exact size, so it isn't always a same-visit fix. If your door is that old and the spring's gone, ask before you assume we can finish it in one stop.
Where You Are
Avondale runs about 5 miles south-southeast of our shop in Lincolnwood, which puts it past Albany Park (3 miles south) and Irving Park (4 miles south) on the same general line, and roughly the same distance out as Harwood Heights but in the opposite direction. Golf, at 4 miles, and Kenilworth, at 6, bracket that same five-mile ring on other sides of the map.
Across the full service area we cover, there are 104,270 households and 52,848 owner-occupied houses, with a median household income of $99,861. Avondale sits inside that same footprint, not a separate market with its own numbers, but the practical effect is the same: most homeowners here own rather than rent, and most are working with houses old enough to have their original garage door hardware still installed somewhere in the system.
We don't have street-level detail for Avondale specifically, no landmark to point to on this stretch, so we're not going to invent one. What we can tell you is the distance, the direction, and the fact that a job here isn't a special trip. It's a normal run for us, same as the rest of the area inside that ring.
